"Finland has a worldwide renowned reputation for its metal music. And what does every Finnish metalhead wait for the most
throughout the year?

Summer festivals, exactly! In Finland every village has its own rock/metal festival. Naturally,
one of the most important ones is the festival held in the capital. Dear lovers of all things metal, may I present
you Tuska festival: 3 days, 3 stages, a freaky but friendly crowd and the most Finnish type of fun you can ever get.
The festival takes place in the centre of Helsinki – Kaisaniemi park. Or should I say “took place”, because this
year was the last time that the metal crowd trashed the city centre. Starting from next year the festival will be moved
to a more industrial sight in an area called Suvilahti. Now I assume this doesn’t ring a bell to anyone living outside
of Finland, so let’s finish here with the weird names. This year all 3 days were completely sold out and tens of thousands
of crazy metalheads gathered for a celebration of summer, alcohol and the best music in the world. During the recent
years Tuska has been accompanied by very hot summer weather – quite unusual for the local climate. Named in a
truly Finnish manner, “tuska” means “pain”. You know what they say – no pain no gain…"

"Greetings to each of you, who know what this entry’s title stand for. Greetings to all of you, who don’t know this,
because you are about to discover a metal masterpiece.
Twenty years ago, in July 1990 the Godzillas of metal – Pantera have released their 5th studio album, which turned out to
be a landmark record in the history of modern metal. You have already heard about our collaboration with the US based
webzine called Horns Up Rocks and here’s what they had to say to commemorate this anniversary."
Please have a look at our blog section, to read the latest entry!

They say four eyes see more than two. Especially when one set of eyes is placed overseas.
We're pleased to inform you that we are starting our co-operation with the NEW YORK based webzine called
HORNS UP ROCKS.
They will bring the big city lights to MUSIC-PHOTOCALYPSE by providing us (and you) with some exclusive material
and reviews of events that take place across the pond, in the United States of America.
To start with, check out the review of RONNIE JAMES DIO tribute at Duff's Brooklyn,
spiced up with an interview with Alex SKOLNICK of TESTAMENT and some more cherry on top of that cake!
Horns up! \,,/

"On a perfect Saturday night, we headed over to "The Metal Mecca" (A.K.A. Duff's Brooklyn).
This time around it was not just a Heavy Metal party, this time the Duff's family was remembering and celebrating the legacy of the
great Ronnie James Dio. As soon as we arrived at Duff's we ran into some familiar faces including drummer/comedian Richard Christy
from the Howard Stern Show and Alex Skolnick from Testament. We also run into Jimmy Duff (owner), who was pumping the jukebox with
all of Dio's back catalog."

Here it is – Behemoth, the mighty Biblical monster that is nowadays impersonated by a blackened death metal
band from Poland bearing the same name. The Behemoth guys are systematically and obstinately haunted by the
Catholic Church but they just wouldn’t stop troubling the trouble: tearing the Bible on stage and making
provocative videos in which church-related symbols and people look like the images of the worst nightmare.
The last thing we heard from Behemoth was their 2009 album “Evangelion”. We managed to get together with
Behemoth singer and the person behind most of the band’s songs, Adam Darski a.k.a. Nergal, in the middle
of the tour and had a talk about the new ‘Evangelion ov Behemoth’.

David Ellefson can be considered one of the old stagers of heavy music by all means. He was in the front row of that small,
but fierce and tight-knit army, which forged thrash metal the way we know it today. These guys have gone through a lot of things:
P.M.R.C., enmity from the music press and critics, “demetalling” of youth, the grunge-burst in the 90’s and so on. Back then they
had no idea, that three decades later the whole world will know their songs by heart and crowds of people will fill huge stadiums
just to see their idols.
Thrash metal doesn’t stand any sissies, only the strongest ones survived to this day. Many fell while fighting their own demons,
but David found his way out of the darkness. You can’t help admiring the fact that so many years later this man is still in full
vigour and at the pinnacle of his creativity.
Megadeth visited Finland on the 4th of July to headline Tuska Festival 2010 in Helsinki. We got to meet David and talk to him about
various matters regarding the band and the state of the metal scene. The discussion could go on endlessly, but there wasn’t much
time left before the band had to go on stage, so we tried to make the most out of it.

As the summer festival season is getting hotter, we decided to remind you how great it was last year.
Hopefully this year it will be even better and that you get to jump on the festival waggon as well and enjoy your ride!
Check out our reports from last year of: ANKKAROCK,
TUSKA and RUISROCK!
The all-star metal wonder-band HAIL! invaded the city of Helsinki once again. It has been a little less than a year since their previous visit and this
time they came with two concerts – one at Dante’s Highlight (08.06) and another one at Sauna Open Air festival in Tampere (12.06). During the
Eurasian tour of 2010 the band’s lineup is different from the one we saw before. Paul Bostaph from Testament took over the drums and James Lomenzo
(ex-Megadeth) replaced previously announced Paul Gray (Slipknot) on bass-guitar due to the sudden death of the latter few days before the start of the tour.
Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens (ex-Judas Priest) and Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) are just as amazing as they were the first time we met them.
There’s no point in trying to put HAIL’s performance in words, besides, we’ve done that already. This time we’ll show you some videos made at
Dante’s Highlight. No professional equipment was used here, not even close, and Youtube did its best to spoil the picture. But hey, metal never
comes wrapped in pink fur with ribbons for your pleasure!

The festival summer season 2010 has officially begun. We started with Metalfest in Austria (which we had actually already covered last year -
back then under the name Summer Nights Open Air) and are now back with pictures of 4 days of Metal.
The weather sucked, but there were lots of great gigs that made up for this wet start of the festival season.
Check out the links for the performances of the warm-up day featuring the following bands:
SALTATIO MORTIS, BEHEMOTH, CORVUS CORAX, DEATH ANGEL, DECAPITATED,
GRAILKNIGHTS, MANEGARM, SEPULTURA, SHINING, SIX FEET UNDER and TWILIGHT OF THE GODS.
Mark Lanegan is one of the very few heroes of Seattle grunge scene who is, luckily, still alive and kicking.
It is really hard to put words together when writing about such a musician. You have to see his performance and
experience the impact of his unbelievable voice yourself to understand what I am talking about. However, I’ll try to do my best to make
you realize why you had to be there in case you haven’t.
The news about Lanegan’s European acoustic tour came about 2 months ago and since then it was impossible to shake off the tingling feeling brought
by the waiting and excitement. Helsinki was left for the dessert on the very last date of the tour – 24th of May. When the day had come, we
invaded the sold out Nosturi club to be a part of what I can absolutely consider to be one of the best shows I have ever seen.

It has been quite a while since Poets of The Fall played a concert in Helsinki. They have spent the past year writing their latest album “Twilight Theater”.
Finally the job was done; the album hit the stores in March and went gold almost immediately. It was time to get back on the road. First the band did a tour
in Russia, and then it was time for Finland and Helsinki. In April Poets of The Fall graced the capital city with two gigs, one on the 3rd of
April in Tavastia and another one on the 30th at Virgin Oil Co.
Music Photocalypse crew got the chance to attend both shows, but separately, due to some organizational issues.
So I am going to tell you about the concert at Virgin Oil Co, but the pictures you can see in the gallery are from Tavastia.
The band looked just as good at Virgin Oil, you can take my word for it.
